There's a huge hoo-hah over the recent euthenization of a Chow mix and her two two-week-old puppies in Florida that's being discussed or ranted upon in many diaries that I read. When I read the article myself, I was dumfounded that people could be so idiodic as to kill off puppies that can't even SEE yet, let alone bite someone.

As I understood it, the child, a four year-old girl approached the mother dog and her pups. From what's been said, the girl was on her own without any supervision and it was a strange dog - this little girl was not part of that dogs family.

My questions are (and feel free to either email me or leave a scathing note in my guestbook), where was the fucking owner of this dog? Where were the parents of this child? And why kill a dog and it's pups to find out IF it had rabies or not? Sorta beside the point now, ain't it?

"Gee Earl, lets kill this here doggy to see if it has rabies."
"What'll we do if it has, Billy-Bob?"
"Uh... ain't rightly thought of that yet..."

*sighs* This shithouse propaganda that Chow's are vicious dogs it bullshit. Any dog can be vicious. Thing is, Chows and Akitas (both Asian-bred dogs that were speficially evolved for their steadfastness to their masters and hence being superior guard dogs to just about anything else that fucking barks and/or wags it's tail) are meant to be that way. They are not meant to be house dogs or confined to a small yard. A big dog such as that would go mental in no time (and frankly, I can't blame them for turning into biters).

Now, ANYONE comes back at me and says I don't know what I'm talking about here can just go... do something nasty to themselves for my enjoyment. I spend most of my spare time ringside at dog shows and see several (hundreds, literally) of dogs that have this same protectiveness specifically bred into them so I know what I'm talking about. I see everything from the Alaskan Malamutes (obviously, since Nessa breeds them) to Vizlas and Portugese-fucking-Waterdogs! I take pictures of them.

Why am I upset? Easy. A government's stupidity and callousness and utter laziness to find someone willing to look after those puppies and raise them to healthy happy dogs. It's the taking of the easy route that pisses me off. These puppies had done nothing wrong. The mother dog had done nothing other than protect her stll very new babies. Honestly, if you saw a complete stranger running towards you, and you were a new mother with two babies in your arms, wouldn't YOU panic? Yeah, me too.

According to all the articles about this, the bite was very minor and the wounds superficial.

No reason to kill a dog.

I am under the impression that the owner (who conveniently wont come forward to comment) has seen this this as a perfect opportunity to get rid of a burden that proved to be too much to him - he hadn't even had the dog neutered, case in point.

I know of a dog, an Irish Wolfhound in fact, that bit the top of a babies head while the child was laying on the couch. The reason for this was because that couch happened to BELONG to the dog (in it's mind), and the baby didn't, so the dog did it's best to remove the baby.

That dog now lives under a male master and children are under strict supervision whenever they are around the dog. The dog has not bitten anyone or anything since, in fact, he's sookier than ever. The problem with this dog is that the original owner was too lax and let the dog think that it was higher up in the pack order than it should have been. Dogs are not Alpha. They are not even Beta. They need to be made aware that they are the LOWEST in the pack order (not in love - in pack order - dogs are still very primal in that respect so they adopt a pack order even with creatures not of their species - ie, their humans). This is all in the training.

Point of my rant is...

If you're getting a dog, then make sure you have the means to take care of the type of dog that you've got. That's all I can say. You can't ignore the animal - especially if it's only got itself for company throughout the day. You can't let it do it's own thing and then blame the animal for doing it's own thing.
