August 07, 2002 - 9:00 AM IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multi cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But, once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom. THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. Apparently this was written by some fuckwit in Florida and was posted on the message board I frequent by a like-minded moron. While I completely, wholeheartedly and faithfully believe that each country has the God/Allah/Yaweh/Buddha/Goddess-given right to preserve their own customs, traditions and lifestyle, there this little thing that's called GLOBALIZATION. There's also this other little thing called the INTERNET which helps globalization along in leaps and bounds. The world's media also keeps the clogs and spokes spinning in the little mechanical mechinism called - well fuck me - evolution. Honey, the world is getting smaller. I can do things today that 15 years ago (in my naieve youth) never thought humanly possible. I can send a letter to my mother in Nepal and have her receive said letter five seconds after I've hit the send button. I can talk to people in the furthest reaches of Alaska, Norway and Africa (and I have done so). I can speak to a myriad of people from a myriad of countries. I can communicate with a photography shop about a new camera in England while getting a new Sigma lens from Canada. We import and export goods and services all over the world, trading this for that and that for this - on a GLOBAL level. No longer are we working within our own shores, let alone our own little rednecked villages. So it's fairly safe to assume that whilst businesses travel nationwide, so will people. It's human nature (as proven by historical fact) that the grass is always greener somewhere else. Someone always has something better than you, therefore you must strive to obtain that same bit of "betterness" than that other person has. There's also another factor in this. Fear. Fear will make people run from their homes in the hopes of finding somewhere safe to enjoy their lives and the lives of their children and their children's children. When the people in obvious power make plays for shit that doesn't belong to them it's the little people trying to scrounge a living for themselves that are fucked over and sideways. Then they feel the need to move away from their homes and branch out. The frightened will run. America (not all Americans, but people like fuckwit 'specially) give the impression of being this wonderland of freedom. This glorious place where the homeless can seek shelter, where the scared can find safety and the oppressed can seek freedom - and find it. You give all these wonderful rights to everyone, and then reneg on just about all of it because of dicks like the above. "Oh, you can come here, but if you don't like God, or pizza, or pork with your applesauce, or a starry flag, then you can fuck off home again." It's NOT about adaptation - it's about acceptance - from BOTH sides. What RIGHT does the American "patriotic" society have to deny a group of people to be themselves? On another note - I've got an IQ of 109. The high end of average. But I still cannot do maths for shit. On yet another note... Maggot has still not been found. Upon calling a few vet clinics yesterday SK discovered that many such dogs as Mags have gone missing - it's looking like there's a dog fighting ring circuit running where I live, but no one knows anything about it. If that's the case, then Maggot is done for.
